Bio

Sergio Bargagliotti (1969) è nato a Livorno, dove vive e risiede. Prima di dedicarsi al disegno e alla pittura, ha svolto la professione di archeologo e condotto scavi in Italia e all’estero. Specializzatosi in archeologia subacquea, con particolare attenzione allo studio della navigazione antica e dei traffici marittimi, si è servito del disegno per documentare le fasi di scavo e registrare le azioni umane che si sono succedute e stratificate, viaggiando a ritroso nel tempo. Successivamente si dedica ad esplorare le possibilità narrative del disegno in ambito fumettistico e della graphic novel, prima di approdare alla ricerca pittorica e grafica con utilizzo di vari media.

Sergio Bargagliotti (1969) was born in Livorno, where he lives and resides. Before dedicating himself to drawing and painting, he worked as an archaeologist and conducted excavations in Italy and abroad. Specialized in underwater archaeology, with particular attention to ancient navigation and maritime traffic of the Roman imperial age, he approached the drawing to record the excavation phases and human actions throughout the centuries, traveling back in time. Subsequently he dedicates himself to exploring the narrative possibilities of drawing in comics and graphic novels, finally to arrive at pictorial and graphic research with the use of various media, with a predilection for oil painting and charcoal and pastel drawing.

Artist Statement

Sono un artista figurativo, interessato all’esplorazione della forma attraverso l’osservazione della figura umana. La mia ricerca artistica è incentrata prevalentemente sul nudo e sul ritratto, con un approccio marcatamente gestuale, fatto di segni e piani “scolpiti”.

Nel mio lavoro sono sempre portato ad instaurare una qualche forma di rapporto emotivo con il soggetto ritratto e a cercare di restituirne l’individualità, anche quando la rappresentazione “dell’altro da me” assume forme più generiche e astratte.

La tensione che ne scaturisce si rivela fondamentale per il mio processo creativo, in cui si alternano costruzione gestuale e distruzione.

I am a figurative artist, interested in exploring form through the observation of the human figure. My artistic research focuses on the nude and portraits with a markedly gestural approach, made of lines and “sculpted” plains.

In my work I am always led to establish some form of emotional relationship with the subject portrayed, trying to restore the individuality, even when the representation of “the other than me” takes on more generic and abstract forms.

The tension that arises turns out to be fundamental for my creative process, in wich gestural construction and destruction alternate.
